The Wielewaal route becomes a light, landscape bridge through the forest, where nature, mobility, and experience come together in a 360° journey
The Wielewaal Eindhoven
The Wielewaal Eindhoven
Commissioned by the city of Eindhoven, BuroLandschap is working on a new cycling and walking connection that will make the future De Wielewaal park accessible from the north. The connection is designed as a unique experiential route through the forest, at the intersection of infrastructure, nature, and user experience. The bridge is part of the larger Lichtbos Eindhoven master plan, which opens the former private estate De Wielewaal to the public.
The cycling connection through Lichtbos in Eindhoven forms the northern access to the future city park De Wielewaal, a former private estate soon to be opened to the wider public. The commission was approached as much more than an infrastructural intervention. The design explores a landscape and architectural experience that links nature, recreation, and mobility.
The project is part of the broader Lichtbos Eindhoven master plan, in which De Wielewaal is being developed into a robust green network, providing space for ecology, soft recreation, and nature experiences—right in the city.

The bridge structure was developed according to a low-impact principle:
minimal disturbance to the existing forest through a lightweight structure, a limited number of foundation points, and a construction method that preserves the soil and ecosystem.
The bridge itself is designed as a 360° experience: users move not only through but also between and above the trees. The rhythm, curvature, and transparency of the structure invite slow movement and wonder. The architecture is inspired by natural growth patterns. Although visually unobtrusive, the bridge simultaneously forms a strong landscape gesture: a route that not only connects but also creates a sensory connection with the landscape.
